Back to School
Before it is time for your children to head back to school, take some time to gather their supplies for the new year and have a clean, tidy space for them to work in.
The first thing I like to do is organize the current school supplies that we have. This way I can verify what we already have, so when the supply lists start coming home I can shop from our stash first, before heading out to the store. This year we are starting a homework station. I have a desk set up in our "living/entry" area. Next to the desk is the cubby - this is where all of the backpacks are stored when not needed. I have cleaned out this desk and have inside it the tools that my children need to complete there assignments. The computer/printer are located nearby but NOT at the designated Homework Station. Hopefully this helps keep children on task and not as distracted.
When purchasing your school supplies, one thing that I like to do is make a list of what we need and put the initial of the student it goes to. As we shop, I can easily mark it off. I also keep a "picture" of their supply lists on an app called Evernote on my phone. This makes it so much easier to refer back to. I have 8 children and of them are currently in school, so individual shopping baskets isn't always "doable" for us. However, your older children can carry their own basket and you can place younger childrens shopping baskets inside a shopping cart. This will keep all of the supplies sorted by student. Make sure they are bagged together and kept separate. This will make it easier to sort through to the proper places upon your return home.
Something to consider, keep a small or cork board that you can alternate inspiring academic quotes or pictures for your children. This can help inspire them or make them laugh - just when they need it most! Whether your students are just beginning or well seasoned, an organized, clean space just for doing homework can make a huge difference for them.
A good dusting and organization of their homework space and Back To School should be that much easier for you AND for your students!
